Located at the edges of the jaw, wisdom teeth grow much later than other teeth, sometimes only in adulthood. Often, the eruption of these teeth causes serious discomfort. “Eighth teeth” can shift neighboring teeth, grow at an angle, and are difficult to care for properly. Sometimes tooth extraction is required to relieve pain and correct bite problems.
When is wisdom tooth extraction necessary?
Is wisdom tooth extraction necessary? Certain indications are required for this:
- Incorrect positioning that injures neighboring teeth and soft tissues. The patient may complain that the tooth hurts or that the cheek rubs while chewing or speaking.
- Carious lesions.
- Placement of braces.
- Cyst formation.
- Compression of the trigeminal nerve.
- Development of pulpitis and periodontal disease.
Wisdom tooth extraction is available at Laurus Dent Plus Dental Clinic. We offer effective and painless methods that are well tolerated by patients.
Specific features of the procedure
Before starting the operation, the doctor at the dental clinic will check whether the patient has any allergic reactions and will choose the appropriate anesthesia. Then a pain-relieving medication will be administered, and the doctor will remove the wisdom tooth using dental forceps.
The wound will be treated with an antiseptic, after which an anti-inflammatory medication will be placed into the socket. In the case of simple extraction, all manipulations at the dental clinic will take no more than 20 minutes.
Complex extraction is performed on lower wisdom teeth when the wisdom tooth hurts, as well as in cases of abnormal root system development. In this case, the specialist cuts the soft tissues and moves them away from the bone, then removes part of the bone tissue and extracts the tooth. The socket is then treated, and sutures are placed using non-absorbable threads. The sutures are removed during a follow-up appointment, once the edges of the wound have fully healed. In this case, the duration of the procedure may reach two hours. During the rehabilitation period, toothache and a temporary increase in temperature are possible.
